Ballroom Dance Class:

Alice Clapp is our ballroom dance instructor.  She teaches the Waltz, Fox Trot, Swing, some Latin, and a few line dances.  Classes are a fun way to socialize and exercise!  Beginners welcome, you do not need to have a partner.

Next Class Fridays, April 5-26th, from 12:30-2PM.

$24 for members, $30 for non members.  One time class, $7

Belly Dancing Class:

 Thursday mornings 9:00 AM

Instructor: Joanne Bailey (Jamila)

Resume:  Jamila has an M.Ed. in Adult Education and 15 years of belly dance experience and has been a performing member of several troupes.   She has studied many different styles of belly dance, mostly recently American Tribal Style, but her love is the classic Cabaret style. 

Benefits of Belly Dance:  Physical benefits may include: increased flexibility, range of motion, muscle strength, improved balance, coordination, and posture. Emotional benefits may include stress reduction, improved self-confidence and self-esteem, overall sense of body awareness.

Preparation: Each class will begin with a warm up and end with a cool down.  These may include cardiovascular exercise, stretching and Yoga.  

What to Wear: Comfortable clothing that allows the body to move; for example, Yoga pants and a t-shirt, leotards and tights.  Thick socks, flat soled (e.g., ballet) or sport-type shoes may be worn in class.  A scarf or shawl may also be worn around the hips.

Format:   The classes will be presented in an easy-to-follow format, which includes technique breakdown, drills, personalized pointers and simple combinations to apply the movements. No prior dance experience is required.

What Students Will Learn:  Come learn the ancient art of Belly Dance!  No matter what your age or shape, it’s a great way to exercise and have fun at the same time. Students will learn the basics of belly dancing, which include posture, isolations, shimmies, undulations and traveling steps.  There will also be a brief introduction to the history of the dance and Middle Eastern rhythms.
